Emily Hallock
NEW PALTZ — Emily Hallock, a senior in the Political Science Department at the State University of New York at New Paltz, has been awarded a four-year fellowship package at UCLA to study political theory.
The fellowship includes an $18,000 stipend plus fees and non-resident tuition during the first year. Each subsequent year, Hallock is guaranteed a paid teaching assistantship in the political science department for a nine month period. It also includes health insurance.
In addition to UCLA, Hallock had been accepted into Ph.D. programs at the University of Virginia; Johns Hopkins; and City University of New York’s (CUNY) Graduate Center. Each of these competitive fellowships offered a range of tuition remission and a stipend.
“Emily’s success reflects several years of thinking and writing about political theory, a critical intellect and focused attention to her work,” said Jeff Miller, political science professor and director of the Honors Program. “She represents the best the Political Science and International Relations department can produce, and we are quite proud of her. I, personally, look forward to reading her work in the future."
Hallock, who is from Croton-on-Hudson, said she eventually plans on teaching at the college level, hopes to do research on the history of the modern period and eventually write a book defending the Enlightenment principles of rationality and progress in political theory.
