Hawks Split with Lakers

OSWEGO, NY — The SUNY New Paltz baseball team traveled to Oswego this afternoon and split with the Lakers, claiming the first game 5-1 before dropping the nightcap 6-0. The Hawks advance to 13-15 on the season and 5-5 in conference play.
In the first game, the Hawks broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh when George Perry scored on a wild pitch. John DeKams followed with an RBI double to score Kevin Paino. New Paltz extended their lead with two runs in the top of the ninth on a DeKams RBI single and an Alex Cadmus RBI double. Junior Zachary Potter earned the win on the mound, allowing one run on three hits and striking out 11 batters.
In the second game, DeKams and Robert Helf were the only Hawk players to earn a hit, out of 24 at bats for New Paltz. Jim Donohue took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in two and one-thirds inning.
The Hawks will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Cortland to take on the Red Dragons in a SUNYAC doubleheader.
