Chaputian Hits Two Run RBI Single to Win Game for Hawks

NEW PALTZ, NY — Doug Chaputian hit a two run RBI single in the bottom of the seventh with bases loaded and two outs to give the Hawks the 10-9 win over Brockport. The Hawks trailed 9-6 heading into the seventh. George Perry was walked and advanced to second on a single by Jesse Marsh. Kevin Paino walked to advance all runners and load the bases. Brockport struck out the next two batters for the two outs. With the pressure on, Alex Cadmus walked, scoring Perry and keeping the bases loaded. Tyler Terlekcy stepped to the plate and hit an RBI single between second and center field to bring the Hawks to within one run of tying, setting the stage for Chaputian’s heroics.

Marsh, Perry, Terlecky, and Chaputian each tallied two hits in the game. Michael Virga picked up the win on the mound, pitching the seventh inning and allowing one hit. Johnathan Shanks started the game on the mound and allowed seven hits and six runs in five innings. Zachary Potter threw the sixth inning and allowed three runs on two hits.
In the first game of the day, the Hawks fell to the Golden Eagles 15-2. New Paltz took a 1-0 lead in the first before Brockport took full control. Alex Cadmus went two for three from the plate. First year John Giuliano took the loss on the mound, allowing nine hits and eight runs (six earned) in four innings.
The Hawks advance to 12-14 overall and 4-4 in SUNYAC play. New Paltz will return to action this weekend on the road against Oswego on Saturday and Cortland on Sunday.
