Brewers Shut Out Hawks, 9-0

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz Hawks took on local rival, Vassar, in a non-conference match-up this afternoon and were shut out by the Brewers, 9-0 as New Paltz falls to 14-18 on the season and Vassar improves to 4-18.
Vassar tallied their first run of the game in the fourth inning when Adam Murphy hit an RBI single to right center. The Hawks had their first scoring opportunity in the fifth when Robert Helf doubled down the left line and advanced to third on a groundout to second base. With two outs and Helf on third, the next batter grounded out to third base to leave the runner on base.
The Brewers added to their lead in the sixth when senior Adam Gallari hit an RBI single, followed by Jon Feingold hitting a single up the middle for a two run RBI. Vassar tallied two runs in the eighth inning for a 6-0 lead before tacking on three runs in the final inning.
The Hawks put the first two batters on base in the ninth inning, with a hope of scoring, but Vassar held strong and took the next three batters to seal the win.
Helf went two for three from the plate for the Hawks. First year John Giuliano took the loss for the Hawks, allowing six runs on twelve hits while striking out five batters in eight innings. Tristan Adams pitched the final inning and allowed three runs on four hits.
The Hawks will return to action Friday afternoon when they travel to CCNY, before returning home to host Baruch in a doubleheader on Saturday at 12:30.
