Hawks Blank NJCU, 3-0

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team hosted New Jersey City University (NJCU) and swept the Knights 3-0. The Hawks dominated in the first and second game, cruising to a 30-21 and 30-22 victory. Game three was more of a battle with the Knights ahead 15-11. The Hawks came back to the tie the set at 20-20 before changing leads changing leads by a point or two a few more times. The Hawks took the lead for good at 26-25 on a kill by senior Jeff Lee. Joshua Spiro followed with a block on the next play for the 27-25 advantage. New Paltz was then called for net to narrow the gap to one before tallying the next three points to seal the win. Mark Blair recorded an assist, Christopher Holden and Blair blocked a kill attempt and then NJCU was called out of play on their final attempt.
Spiro led the way for the Hawks with 16 kills and Lee recorded 13 kills and 25 digs. Holden and Blair each finished with eight kills. Pedro Medina collected 24 digs and Matt Weingarten handed out 38 assists. The Hawks will return to action on Friday when they travel to New Haven.
