Hawks Fall in Overtime to Red Dragons

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team hosted the Cortland Red Dragons and fell in overtime, 73-70. Cortland’s Dave Maggiacomo stole an inbounds pass with three seconds left in the second half and sank a jumper with a second remaining to send the game into overtime. In the overtime, New Paltz jumped out to a 63-59 lead off two free throws by John Hauser and a layup by Amseshem Foluke-Henderson. Cortland then went on a 9-0 run for a 68-63 lead with 35 seconds remaining. The Hawks came to within two at the 72-70 with nine second left before Cortland’s Carson Niehoff hit the second of two free throw attempts for the 73-70 lead. Jimmy Sugrue got off a three point attempt at the buzzer which hit off the rim for the final score. The Hawks were outrebounded 54-45 and struggled from the line shooting 10-of-21.
Foluke-Henderson posted a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Hawks. Hauser scored 19 points and grabbed nine boards. Matt Irwin and Jimmy Sugre each finished with seven points.
SUNY New Paltz returns to action tomorrow night when they travel to Baruch College for a 7:00 pm match-up.
