Women’s Soccer Battles to Second Consecutive Scoreless Tie
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer didn’t score a goal, but they also didn’t allow a goal in this afternoon’s conference game with Plattsburgh. Both teams played a scoreless regulation, and two overtime periods without allowing a tally.
The Cardinals had a one shot advantage over the Hawks, and New Paltz keeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY) made 10 saves, most of them coming off of a Cardinal corner kick. Plattsburgh had the corner advantage in the first half, with 8 opportunities, but could not capitalize.
The Hawks had a great opportunity with 5:12 remaining in regulation when junior Kelly Amendola (Brewster, NY) had a point blank shot on Plattsburgh netminder Kathryn Lind, (Garden City, NY) who made a spectacular save for one of her 8 stops on the day.
Boccard was equally impressive in goal squashing a Cardinal bid at the end of the first overtime during a frantic flurry in front of the net off a corner.
In accordance with SUNYAC rules the two teams used a five player shootout to help determine a tie-breaker at the end of the season if the two teams are tied for a playoff spot. New Paltz won the shootout 3-2.
New Paltz, 4-7-3, 2-4-2 SUNYAC, hosts SUNYIT in a conference matchup on Wednesday, October 11th at Alumni Field at 4:00pm. Plattsburgh 6-5-2, 1-5-1 SUNYAC, travels to Oswego for a conference game on Friday, October 13th.
