Foss and Thomson Lead Hawks to Overtime Win

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Two minutes into the second overtime junior Justin Thomson collected a ball from Robert Mendes and fired a shot into the upper right corner of the net to give the Hawks the 5-4 win over the Vassar Brewers. SUNY New Paltz outshot Vassar 26-18, with three of their shot opportunities coming in overtime.

Thomson put the Hawks on the board first on an unassisted tally just 3:45 into the game. Vassar was awarded a penalty kick at 26:39 and evened the game at 1-1. Senior Greg Foss tallied his first of the game on a through ball from Mendes in the 32nd minute. Vassar was quick to respond in the 35th minute to finish the first have 2-2.

New Paltz tallied an own goal to give Vassar their only lead of the game in the 52nd minute. Foss reclaimed the lead for the Hawks scoring twice in a 1:50 for the hat trick. Garett Munro assisted on the first at 65:18, with Brian Siergiej picking up the assist on the second.

In the 80th minute Vassar tied the game to force overtime and set the stage for Thomson’s game winner.

Jeffery Dudley posted six saves in net to earn the win, as Jake London made eight saves in the losing effort. The Hawks will close out their season on Saturday, October 28th whne they travel to Skidmore for a 12pm matchup.
