NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team remained perfect on the year with an 8-1 defeat of the defending SUNYAC Champions, the Cortland Red Dragons. This is the first dual match win for the Hawks against Cortland.
Dana Lim (Clarkstown South/New City) and Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) won at first doubles, 8-2, and each posted a singles victory for the Hawks. Senior Jennifer Larson (Port Jervis) and sophomore Katherine Ketigian (Scared Heart Academy/Garden City) won 8-3 at second doubles and first years Laura-Elizabeth Beirne (Shoreham-Wading River/Moriches) and Lyndsey Lovinger (Miller Place) were 8-2 winners at third doubles.
New Paltz won five of the six singles flights. Lim won at first singles decided by a super-tie breaker, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 and Yamakawa won in straight sets of 6-0, 6-0 at second singles. Beirne was defeated in third singles by Andrea TerBush (Liberty) 6-4, 6-7 (7-5). Larson was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at fourth singles and Ketigian posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at fifth singles. New Paltz’s final victory came at sixth singles were first year Kerri Serkes (Massapequa) won 6-1, 6-1.
The Hawks advance to 5-0 on the season and will face Plattsburgh tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Cross Courts Tennis Club in Wappingers Falls.
Dana Lim claimed a win at first singles with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 showing. Lim teamed with Yamakawa for an 8-2 victory at first doubles.
Eri Yamakawa won second singles in straight sets of 6-0, 6-0 and teamed with Lim for a win at first doubles.
