Tennis Moves to 3-0 on Season with 9-0 win over Brockport
BROCKPORT, NY — This afternoon, the SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play with a 9-0 victory over Brockport.
SUNY New Paltz swept singles and double play, with sophomore Dana Lim (Clarkstown South/New City) claiming first singles as she defeated Ashley Balling 6-1, 6-1. Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) remains undefeated in number two singles as she won 6-0 and 6-1 against Kayla Mizgala. At number three singles Laura-Elizabeth Beirne (Shoreham-Wading River/Moriches) beat Erin McLaughlin 6-2, 6-1. Jennifer Larson (Port Jervis) won straight sets 6-0, 6-0 against Katie Keller. In number five singles Katherine Ketigian (Scared Heart Academy/Garden City) claimed the third victory of the year with a 6-1, 6-0 showing against Angie Bermudez. Kerri Serkes (Massapequa) rounded out the Hawks at number six singles with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat against Erin Doe.
In doubles action, Lim and Yamakawa won 8-4 over McLaughlin and Balling. At number two doubles, the Ketigian and Larson paired up for an 8-0 victory Jamie McDonald and Alex Hinckley. The duo of Beirne and Jodie Brenner (Plainview Old Bethpage/Plainview) claimed the win at third doubles with a hard fought 9-8 battle against Mizgala and Holly Acito.
The Hawks continue their weekend trip tomorrow when they face Wells College at 11 a.m.
