Women’s Tennis Claims Second Straight Win

MANHATTANVILLE, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team picked up their second win of the season with a 7-2 defeat against Manhattanville.
At number one singles, sophomore Dana Lim (Clarkstown South/New City) claimed her first individual win of the year as she defeated Blake Leeser (Irvington) 6-2, 6-2. Serving up at number two singles was Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) defeated Laura McDowell (Granby, MA) 6-0 and 6-3. New Paltz lost the third singles match as Laura-Elizabeth Beirne (Shoreham-Wading River/Moriches) fell 6-3, 6-0 to Paisley Coats (Grennwich, CT). The Hawks got back on track and claimed fourth, fifth and sixth singles. Katherine Ketigian (Scared Heart Academy/Garden City) beat Ariane Lewis (New Haven, CT) in number four singles, 6-2, 6-1.
In number five singles Kerri Serkes (Massapequa) claimed the second victory of her collegiate career with a 6-0, 6-1 showing against Rebecca Jenny (Brookfield, CT). Rounding out the singles action at number six was first year Lyndsey Lovinger (Miller Place) who defeated Scarlette Rodriguez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) 6-0 and 6-2.
In doubles action, the number one team of Lim and Yamakawa fell 8-6 to Lesser and Coats. At number two doubles, the duo of Beirne and Jodie Brenner (Plainview Old Bethpage/Plainview) came back from 7-4 deficit to Laura McDowell (Granby, MA.) and Ariane Lewis (New Haven, Conn.) to claim the win at 9-7. In the number three doubles pairing, Ketigian and sophomore Ashley Trifletti (Rye Neck/Mamaroneck) defeated Jenny and Rodriguez, 8-4.
The Hawks will be on the road this weekend when they travel to Brockport to take on the Golden Eagles in a conference match-up on Saturday. On Sunday New Paltz will be taking on Wells College.
