SUNY New Paltz Men’s Basketball Downed By Spartans

CASTLETON, VT — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team fell to 5-16 on the year with a 79-66 loss at the hands of Castleton State this evening.

Castleton State (12-9) opened the affair shooting 62.1 percent from the floor to post a 45-33 lead at halftime. SUNY New Paltz (5-16) stepped up their defensive play in the closing period, holding the Spartans to 40 percent shooting from the field, but failed to cut into the Castleton State lead. The Spartans outscored the Hawks by one point in the second half to earn the 13-point victory.

SUNY New Paltz had four players finish the contest in double figures. Freshman forward Luke Robinson (Dix Hills, NY) led the Hawks with a career-high 15 points, off the bench, including three-of-four shooting from behind the arch. Senior guard Keith Crichlow (Central Islip, NY) totaled ten points, seven rebounds and two blocks, while junior guard Matt Irwin (Brooklyn, NY) and freshman forward Steven Lewis (Brooklyn, NY) scored 14 and 12 points, respectively. Junior forward John Hauser (East Williston, NY) piloted the SUNY New Paltz offense with six assists in the loss.

Junior forward Jeremy Jorgensen (Fairlee, VT) led all scorers as he recorded a double-double with 21 points and 18 rebounds for the Spartans. Senior guard Brian Bradley (Middlebury, VT) finished the affair with 20 points and three blocks, as sophomore guard Rich Reilly (Manassas, VA) tallied 14 points while collecting six assists and three steals. Freshman guard Larnell Jackson (Bridgeport, CT) provided 14 points and seven rebounds, off the bench, for Castleton State.

The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team will travel to Oswego for a conference contest on Friday, February 10, at 8:00 pm.
