SUNY New Paltz Men’s Basketball Team Drops Seventh Straight

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team lost their seventh straight game, and sixth consecutive conference contest, to Oswego by a score of 74-60 this evening.

Oswego (12-3, 6-1) jumped out to a 36-21 lead at halftime. The Lakers scored the first twelve points of the contest. SUNY New Paltz (4-11, 1-6) cut the Laker lead to as little as six, but Oswego was able to reestablish control and build a 15-point halftime edge. Junior guard Nicholas Perioli (Liverpool, NY) piloted the Laker offense in the opening period totaling 12 points. Junior forward Mat Burridge (Oswego, NY) added nine points in the first half. The Hawks were led by junior forward John Hauser (East Williston, NY) who recorded five points in the first half. Junior center Jerome Richards (Kingston, Jamaica) provided four points and five rebounds.

SUNY New Paltz pulled to within 12 points of the Lakers, but senior forward Ahmad Mims (Syracuse, NY) shutdown the second half offense of SUNY New Paltz collecting seven blocks, while posting 14 points and grabbing nine rebounds. He joined three other Lakers in double figures. Perioli led all scores with 23 points and five assists. Burridge finished the evening with 15 points, as freshman guard Kyle Reuter (Mexico, NY) added ten points. Matt Irwin (Brooklyn, NY) sparked the SUNY New Paltz offense in the second half scoring ten consecutive points for the Hawks over a two and a half minute span, mid-way through the closing period. He finished the evening as the top scorer for the Hawks with 16 points on seven-of-ten shooting from the floor. Senior guard Keith Crichlow (Central Islip, NY) and Hauser each totaled ten points on the evening. Crichlow added six assists and Hauser grabbed six rebounds and five assists.

SUNY New Paltz will continue their conference weekend tomorrow, Saturday, January 21 at 8:00 pm when they will host Geneseo.
