SUNY New Paltz Men’s Basketball Falls At Home To SUNY IT
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team fell to 1-2 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) with a 90-80 loss to SUNY IT. With the loss the Hawks drop to 4-7 overall. SUNY IT improved to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the SUNYAC.
SUNY New Paltz (4-7, 1-2) entered halftime down only four, 34-30, after trailing by as many as 11 with 2:43 remaining in the half. Junior forward John Hauser (East Williston, NY) and led the Hawks in the first half with 11 points and eight rebounds. The Wildcats were led by junior guard Chris Reaves (Syracuse, NY) who recorded 12 points and three assists in the opening period.
SUNY IT (5-4, 3-0) held the led throughout the second half, pushing the deficit to as many as 11 points. The Hawks whittled the Wildcats lead to three, with 43 seconds remaining in the contest, with some clutch three-point baskets from junior guard Jimmy Sugrue (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY), senior guard John Carter (Mount Vernon, NY) and Hauser. SUNY IT, however, made their free throws down the stretch to secure the win. Hauser recorded his second double-double of the year totaling 19 points and 10 rebounds. Four other Hawks joined Hauser in double figures; senior guard Keith Crichlow (Central Islip, NY) and Sugrue each finished with ten points and junior forward Bobby Kaible (Saugerties, NY) pitched in 11 points in the loss. Reaves led all players with 24 points and eight assists. Junior guards Chris Plante (Whitesboro, NY), Chris Laboard (Bronx, NY), and Elvis Belone (Queens, NY) also finished in double figures for SUNY IT. They pitched in 19, 13, and ten points respectively.
The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team will travel to play Buffalo State on Friday, January 13 at 8:00 pm, in their next SUNYAC competition.
