SUNY New Paltz Women’s Volleyball Improves to 5-2 in SUNYAC

POTSDAM, NY — This weekend the SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team is participating in the second weekend of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Round Robin at Potsdam. With the completion of the first day the Hawks improve their conference mark to 5-2, 21-8 overall.

In the 6:00 pm match the Hawks swept Plattsburgh (11-20, 2-5) in three straight games. SUNY New Paltz (21-8, 5-2) won the first game 30-19, the second 30-18 and the third 30-17. Senior middle hitter Christina Mazurowski (Tonawanda, NY) paced the Hawks with ten kills and posted three blocks on defense. Sophomore setter Katie Becofsky (Altamont, NY) supported the Hawk’s offense with 26 assists. A balanced performance was provided by junior right side Kim Clouston (Baldwinsville, NY), who totaled seven kills and 14 digs.

SUNYAC Eastern Division leaders, SUNY New Paltz and Cortland, met face to face the 8:00 pm match. The Hawks defeated Cortland (23-6, 6-1) 3-2 in the first round robin weekend of conference play. The Red Dragons evened the score posting a 3-0 victory this evening. Cortland took the first game 30-21, the second 30-25, and the third 30-23. Becofsky registered another 26-kill performance. Mazurowski recorded nine kills and six blocks. Clouston contributed eight kills and eight digs in the loss.

The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team will begin the second day of the SUNYAC Round Robin at 12:00 pm.
