SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey Team Blanks Wells College

KINGSTON, NEW YORK — The SUNY New Paltz (5-10) field hockey team defeated Wells College (0-11) this morning by a score of 6-0. The Hawks displayed their best offensive performance of the season scoring a season high four goals in the first half.

The Hawks scored first when sophomore midfielder Jacqueline Sisco (Wappingers Falls, NY) got New Paltz on the board scoring on a pass from senior forward Shannon Stokes (Accord, NY). The pair would then combine again when Sisco crossed the ball to Stokes in front of the cage to record the second goal of the first half. The Hawks offense was unstoppable in the first half scoring two more goals off the sticks of Kaitlin Ruggiero (Carmel, NY) and Shannon Stokes. Wells goalkeeper Taneeka Smith (Bighamton, NY) faced 19 first half shots tallying eight saves.

In the second half of the game, the Hawks stepped up their play offensively led by sophomore forward Ashley Smith (Selden, NY) who recorded one goal and one assist on the day. New Paltz would strike again with 16:27 remaining in the game, when sophomore midfielder Kaitlin Ruggiero scored off a pass from Ashley Smith to solidify the victory for the Hawks. SUNY New Paltz outshot Wells College 34 to one.

Junior goalkeeper Margaret Blair (Lake Peekskill, NY) registered one save in the win, while Wells College goalkeeper Taneeka Smith collected 17 saves for the Express.
