SUNY New Paltz Women’s Soccer Team Remains Undefeated in 2005

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team battled Ramapo College to a 1-1 tie this afternoon at Alumni Field.

In what turned out to be a seesaw affair, the Hawks and Roadrunners completed a full two overtimes before reaching the 1-1 final. Both goals were scored in the opening half and recorded within forty-five seconds of each other. SUNY New Paltz (1-0-1) tallied the first goal at 23:15 when junior midfielder Stephanie DeRobertis (Newburgh, NY) found junior forward Alison Fliegel (New Hyde Park, NY) in front of the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Soon after, Ramapo (2-1-1) senior midfielder Jessica Stoveken (Lyndhurst, NJ) snuck one by freshman goalkeeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY) to tie the game at one.

The game remained in a stalemate for the remainder of regulation. In the first overtime period the Roadrunners controlled much of the play, however, the Hawk?s defense held strong and sent the contest into double overtime. The momentum of the game switched hands in the second overtime. SUNY New Paltz held the ball in their offensive for a majority of the period. On their lone offensive push, Ramapo junior midfielder Meghan Farrell (Monroe Twp., NJ) took a wide-open shot from point-blank range only to be denied by a diving Boccard.

Hawk’s goalkeeper, Boccard, recorded 11 saves. Senior goalkeeper Christy Turner (Ringwood, NJ) made six saves for Ramapo College.
