SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Comes Up Short Against Plattsburgh

NEW PALTZ, NY — This afternoon at Alumni Field, The SUNY New Paltz men?s soccer team split their first home conference weekend with a 1-0 loss to Plattsburgh.

In the 77th minute Cardinal junior midfielder Ryan Forsberg (Endicott, NY) caught junior goalkeeper Masanori Hotta (Hyogo, Japan) too far out of net and tagged the ball into the goal for the 1-0 lead. Plattsburgh (7-1, 3-1) held off the SUNY New Paltz attack for the remaining minutes to ensure the victory. Hotta made eight saves in the loss.

Despite the loss, SUNY New Paltz (4-6, 1-3) played well against a Plattsburgh team that finished last regular season atop the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC)standings. The teams battled back and forth for a majority of what turned out to be quite the physical affair. In total there were nine yellow cards awarded.

The Hawks maintained a well balance offensive attack, but were never able to break the Cardinal defense. Senior goalkeeper Zach Manning (Endicott, NY) made three saves in the win and earned a shutout.

The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team will travel next Friday, September 30, to take on conference rival Brockport.
