Mazurowski Named SUNYAC Player of the Week in Women’s Volleyball

FREDONIA, NY — SUNY New Paltz senior outside hitter Christina Mazurowski (Tonawanda, NY) has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Player of the Week for her efforts in conference play at this past weekend’s SUNYAC Pool Play.

Mazurowski earned the Player of the Week honor for the week ending September 25. At the SUNYAC East Division Round-Robin, held at SUNY IT in Utica, NY, Mazurowski helped lead the Hawks to a 4-1 conference record placing them in a tie with Cortland for first place.

Thanks to Mazurowski, however, SUNY New Paltz holds the edge on Cortland due to a 3-2 victory over the Red Dragons on Friday, September 23. Mazurowski finished the match with 10 kills, 10 blocks and a .435 hitting percentage. It was the first time in the history of SUNY New Paltz Athletics that the Hawks defeated Cortland, who is currently nationally ranked at #19, in 43 tries. Mazurowski recorded 53 kills, 31 blocks and carried a .445 hitting percentage for the five-match conference weekend of competition. Including the Cortland match, she also played errorless volleyball in three out of the five conference matches. Mazurowski recorded a 13 kill, five block performance in a 3-0 win over Potsdam and a 12 kill, seven block performance in a 3-1 victory over Plattsburgh, both played without an error.

SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball is currently 12-4 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC for 2005. They will travel across the river to play Vassar College on Wednesday, September 28 at 7:00 pm.
