Hawks Advance in NECVA Tournament

MAHAWA, NJ — The SUNY New Paltz menĂ½s volleyball team, ranked seventh in Division III, advanced to the quarterfinals of the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Tournament with a 3-0 win (30-22, 30-22, 30-22) over fourth-seeded Hunter College this afternoon.

Senior Mike LaRocco (Hauppauge, NY) led the way with 13 kills and six digs. Senior Chris Ganje (Halfmoon, NY) and junior Ryan Bullard (Smithtown, NY) each had nine kills to give the Hawks (26-9) their third win of the season over Hunter.

The victory puts the fifth-seeded Hawks into the semifinals against top-seeded and fourth ranked Stevens Tech later this evening. Stevens Tech (22-7) owns a pair of victories over SUNY New Paltz including a 3-1 triumph on March 16 at New Paltz.

Late last evening the Hawks cruised to a 3-0 win over 12th-seeded Brooklyn College. Ganje and junior Greg Jackson (Central Square, NY) each had 10 kills to lead SUNY New Paltz to a 30-15, 30-18, 30-16 win.
