Union Takes Two From Hawks

NEW PALTZ, NY — The Union softball team snapped a four-game SUNY New Paltz winning streak with a 6-1 win in the first game of a doubleheader and followed it up with a 2-0 victory in the second game.

In game one, Union junior Abby Arceneaux (Mechanicville, NY) pitched a four-hitter and went 2-for-4 with a run batted in to lead the Dutchwomen to a 6-1 victory. Arceneaux had an RBI single in a five-run third to lead Union to the win in game one. SUNY New Paltz freshman Michelle Reinke (St. James, NY) pitched five innings and took the loss to drop her record to 2-1 on the year. She allowed five hits and struck out two batters.

Junior Liz McPartlan (Huntington Station, NY) was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Hawks.

In game two, Union (9-3) junior Jackie Coffey (Boston, MA) threw a six-inning no-hitter against SUNY New Paltz. Coffey walked one and struck out three in a game that was called due to darkness after the bottom of the sixth.

Sophomore Colleen White (Westport, CT) and junior Stephanie Rubino (Port Chester, NY) had RBI hits for the Dutchwomen.

Freshman Kelly OĆ½Hea (Huntington Station, NY) was the losing pitcher and is now 2-1 for the Hawks. She allowed six hits, walked three and struck out two in six innings of work.

With the doubleheader loss, SUNY New Paltz is now 4-2 on the season.
