Hawks Defeat Ramapo To Extend Streak

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team outlasted Ramapo 15-8 in the fifth game to come away with a 3-2 road victory over their NECVA Metro Division rivals this evening.

After dropping the first game 30-26, the Hawks hit .381 over the next two games to prevail 30-27 and 30-25 to take a 2-1 lead. The Roadrunners (21-13, 7-5) edged SUNY New Paltz 30-28 in the fourth to set up the fifth and deciding game.

SUNY New Paltz (22-9, 8-3) was led by senior Chris Ganje (Halfmoon, NY) who went over the 20-kill mark for the fourth time this season and finished the match with 23 kills and two errors in 41 attempts for a .512 hitting percentage.

Junior Greg Jackson (Central Square, NY) gave the Hawks a strong all-around effort with a career-high 15 kills in 21 attempts for a .571 hitting percentage. Jackson also added five blocks to help extend the SUNY New Paltz winning streak to five.

Senior Mike LaRocco (Hauppauge, NY) and junior Ryan Bullard (Smithtown, NY) also recorded double-digit kill totals with 14 and 13 respectively.

Junior Kevin Buggs (Tonawanda,NY) helped lead the Hawks to a .327 hitting percentage for the match with a season-best 65 assists.

The Hawks will play their final regular season home match tomorrow evening against Yeshiva at 7:30 p.m.
