Ithaca Defeats SUNY New Paltz

ITHACA, NY — Five Ithaca pitchers combined to scatter five hits in an 11-2 victory over SUNY New Paltz this afternoon. The Bombers (6-7) were led by senior Ben McBride who drove in a season-high four runs to lead Ithaca to its fourth straight win.

Freshman Michel Virga (Farmingville, NY) started and took the loss for SUNY New Paltz. He pitched an inning and two thirds and allowed two runs, walked five and struck out one.

SUNY New Paltz scored single runs in the fifth and eighth innings. Junior catcher Josh Gutes (Hauppauge, NY) had an RBI single in the fifth and was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Junior Jeff CoteĆ½ (Mechanicsville, MD) produced an RBI double in the eighth and went 1-for-4.

SUNY New Paltz dropped to 3-7 with the loss. The Hawks will open their conference schedule on Saturday (Apr. 2) at home against Plattsburgh at 12:00 p.m.
