Hawks Sweep Through Day One at Endicott

BEVERLY, MA — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team picked up a pair of victories on the first day of the Endicott Tournament.

The Hawks needed four games to defeat Hunter College in their opening match. SUNY New Paltz broke out with a 30-23 win in the first game before Hunter came back to win the second game 30-27. SUNY New Paltz then reeled off wins of 30-18 and 30-20 to earn the victory. The Hawks used a balanced attack to earn their 13th win of the season. Chris Ganje had 15 kills and Ryan Bullard added 10 kills and nine digs. Joshua Spiro had nine kills in 12 attempts for a .750 hitting percentage.

SUNY New Paltz then rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Medaille 3-2. After winning the opener 30-22, the Hawks then fell to Medialle 30-25 and 30-24 in games two and three. The Hawks tied the match with a 30-22 win in game four and prevailed 15-13 in the tie-breaker.

Ganje had 17 kills, eight digs and three blocks. Bullard added 11 kills, seven blocks and six digs.

SUNY New Paltz, now 14-7 on the year, will play host Endicott tomorrow at 12 p.m.
