SUNY New Paltz faculty and staff are invited to take part in Reading Objects 2005. Participants in this interdisciplinary project choose a work of art from the museum’s permanent collection, and write interpretative commentary on the work from their personal or professional perspective. These contributions are displayed alongside the work of art in an exhibition.
This innovative venture seeks to present diverse perspectives on art within the SUNY New Paltz community. Objects in this exhibition are often accompanied by more than one interpretation. Differing voices and varied specializations can expand and enhance our appreciation of visual the arts. Poetic language, literary prose, technical analysis, critical commentary, and cross-disciplinary approaches are all welcome and encouraged.
This is a great chance to get published in 2005!
The art objects and their labels will be in an exhibition on view during the fall semester of 2005. A fully illustrated catalogue accompanying the exhibition will include all label texts. The exhibition will be on view in Fall 2005
On Thursday, March 17th, at Noon there will be an orientation meeting at the museum* where faculty and staff members interested in participating in this project can view the objects. Contact Judi Esmond, Museum Educator (esmondj@newpaltz.edu, ext. 2331) by Monday, March 14th to attend this meeting.
*If you are unable to attend this meeting, you may still participate in the project by contacting Judi to make other arrangements to view the actual works of art.
