Hawks Earn a Split at Mary Washington
FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Dean Glanzeman singled home Jeff Cote’ with one out in the bottom of the sixth to give the SUNY New Paltz baseball team a 7-4 win in the second game of a doubleheader at 24th ranked Mary Washington this afternoon.
Glanzeman’s single put the Hawks ahead 5-4 and SUNY New Paltz tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to secure a split. Cote’ was the hitting star of the second game for the Hawks (2-6) going 3-for-4 with a run batted in. Blake Crocitto went 1-for-4 in the second game and drove in two.
Joe Gugliotta pitched two innings of hitless relief to earn the victory. Josh Gutes pitched the sixth and seventh to pick up the save. Gutes was also 1-for-3 at the plate and 3-for-6 in the doubleheader.
In game one, Mary Washington offset a three-run, SUNY New Paltz first with six in the bottom half of the inning to prevail 9-5. John DeKams went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the loss. Ryan Schafer started and suffered the loss. He pitched four innings, surrendered six earned runs and gave up 12 hits.
