SUNY New Paltz Men’s Basketball Team Falls to Buffalo State

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team lost 69-65 to conference rival Buffalo State this evening.

SUNY New Paltz (9-13, 3-10) entered the second half down 38-32, but a lay-up by sophomore forward John Hauser (East Williston, NY) capped a 12-5 run and gave the Hawks a one point lead, 44-43. The Bengals quickly regained the lead on a basket by sophomore forward John Lawal (Hempstead, NY), 45-44. Buffalo State maintained the lead until junior guard Jonathan Carter (Mount Vernon, NY) drained a three, tying the game 61-61 with 3:21 left to play. The Bengals (10-12, 5-9), however, were able to capitalize on late Hawk turnovers and missed field goals to reclaim their lead and pull out the 69-65 win.

The Hawks had four players in double figures. Carter finished with 11 points, sophomore guard Tony Cannon (New York, NY) had 14 points and seven boards, junior guard Maurice Douglas (Brooklyn, NY) had 17 and sophomore forward Amseshem Foluke-Henderson (Jamaica, NY) added his third consecutive double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Buffalo State was led by junior forward Gregg Jones (Syracuse, NY), who had a game high 23 points. Lawal finished with 13 points and six rebounds.
