Ganje Tops 1,000 Career Kills, Hawks Rally To Win

LANGHORNE, PA — The 11th ranked SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team extended its winning streak to five in a row with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Philadelphia Biblical this afternoon.

Senior Chris Ganje (Halfmoon, NY) helped lead the Hawks back from a 2-1 deficit with 24 kills including the 1,000th kill of his career. Ganje’s effort pushed his career total to 1,002 and improved SUNY New Paltz’s record to 7-5.

After dropping the opening game 30-28, SUNY New Paltz prevailed 30-19 in game two. Philadelphia Biblical (3-4) answered with a 30-28 win in the third game before SUNY New Paltz took the final two games by scores of 30-19 and 15-10. It was the second time in the three days the Hawks had to overcome a 2-1 deficit to extend their winning steak. SUNY New Paltz trailed Hunter College 2-1 on Thursday night before prevailing in five games.

Junior Ryan Bullard (Smithtown, NY) finished with 12 kills and nine digs. Senior Mike LaRocco (Hauppague, NY) contributed 12 kills and seven digs and Jason Karpf (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) finished with 44 assists.
