Kelty Named SUNYAC Player of the Week

NEW PALTZ, NY — SUNY New Paltz sophomore guard Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY) was named the Player of the Week in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) this afternoon.

Kelty sparked the Hawks to a 3-0 week by averaging 18.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. Kelty’s effort helped SUNY New Paltz extend its winning streak to five in a row and improve to 8-4 on the year. The Hawks’ current five-game surge is the program’s longest winning streak since the 1992-93 when the team produced seven consecutive victories.

The SUNY New Paltz starting point guard played all 55 minutes of a 72-64 triple-overtime victory against Vassar last Tuesday (Jan. 11) and registered 16 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.

Kelty continued a strong week with 21 points, six rebounds and six assists in a 79-42 win over Potsdam on Friday night (Jan. 14). She capped off the week with 19 points, five rebounds, five assists and only one turnover in a 61-52 overtime win over Plattsburgh on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 15).

Kelty is averaging a team-best 4.6 assists per game and is second in scoring (9.5 ppg.) and rebounding (5.2 rpg.). She is the second Hawk in as many weeks to earn conference Player of the Week honors. Last week, SUNY New Paltz sophomore guard Kristin Jackson was named the SUNYAC Player of the Week.

In addition to an 8-4 overall record, the Hawks are 4-1 and tied for third place in the SUNYAC. The Hawks will resume their conference schedule this weekend when they play at SUNYIT on Friday night (Jan. 21) and at Geneseo on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 22).
