Hawks Fall To Stevens Tech, Cal-Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, CA — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team opened its four-match, week-long California trip with a pair of loss on Saturday.

The Hawks played NECVA rival Stevens Tech in their opening match and lost 3-1 (25-30, 29-31, 30-27, 27-30). Junior Ryan Bullard (Smithtown, NY) had 12 kills and three service aces in his SUNY New Paltz debut. Senior Mike LaRocco (Hauppauge, NY) added 18 kills and one service ace.

In its second match of the evening, SUNY New Paltz fell to the University of California-Santa Cruz by a 3-1 score as well. After dropping the first game 30-23, the Hawks came back to win the second game 30-24. Cal-Santa Cruz then took the next two games 30-20 and 30-27 to win the match.

Bullard had 10 kills, four aces and three digs and senior setter Jason Karpf (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) had 38 assists. Sophomore Jason Lee (Clifton Park, NY) finished with nine kills and three digs.
