Hawks Roll; Jackson Nets Career-High 26 Points

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the four minutes and never looked back in an 86-28 victory over Polytechnic this afternoon at Elting Gym.

Sophomore guard Kristin Jackson (East Islip, NY) scored 19 of her career-high 26 points in the first half to help the Hawks (5-4) climb over the .500 mark. Jackson was 11-of-15 from the field and 4-of-8 from three-point range to lead SUNY New Paltz to its second consecutive win.

Freshman guard Sarah Salvo (Manorville, NY) came off the bench and scored a career-best 13 points in 16 minutes of action. In all, eleven different players scored for SUNY New Paltz. Senior guard Kim Weigel (Whitestone, NY) had nine points and six assists and freshman forward Courtney Brown (Smyrna, NY) had a career-best eight points on 4-of-4 shooting.

The Hawks forced 21 first-half turnovers and limited Polytechnic to seven field goals in building a, 47-14 halftime lead.

Polytechnic (1-6) was led by junior guard Marcy DeSio (Staten Island, NY) who finished with 14 points and four rebounds.
