SUNY New Paltz Women’s Soccer Team Gets Win Over SUNY IT, 3-0

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team defeated SUNY IT 3-0 this afternoon.

The contest was the final regular season home game this year for the Hawks. In a brief ceremony prior to kickoff Coach Colleen Bruley honored her graduating seniors; Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY), Lauren Martone (Hastings-on-the-Hudson, NY), Danielle Herring (Albany, NY), Lauren Pastore (Levittown, NY) and Meredith Ventimiglia (Patchogue, NY).

Senior forward Lauren Martone, in her final regular season home game, helped lead the Hawks to victory with a goal and an assist. Martone deflected a ball in the box away from the Wildcat junior goalie Amy Trowbridge (Ghent, NY) which was then redirected by freshman midfielder Kate Schamberger (Levittown, NY) into an empty net to give the Hawks a 2-0 halftime lead.

Martone’s goal came in the 80th-minute when she sent a pass from sophomore forward Alison Fliegel (New Hyde Park, NY) to the back of the net and put SUNY New Paltz (6-6-3, 4-3-2) on top 3-0.

Senior goalie Maggie Fenton also had a strong showing, in her final regular season home game, making three saves on five SUNY IT (1-10, 1-7) shots for her sixth shutout on the season.
