Hawks Place Seven on All-SUNYAC Team

NEW PALTZ, NY — Senior Amanda Rosario (Bronx, NY), who captured the SUNYAC Championship at number six singles, was one of seven Hawks named to the league’s all-conference team this afternoon.

Rosario, who earned first team all-league honors, defeated Lauren Eichenauer of Geneseo, 4-6, 7-6, 6-0 to claim her first conference title. Rosario helped lead the SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team to a second place finish at the conference championship last weekend in East Manlius, NY.

It was Rosario’s second appearance on the all-conference team. As a junior in 2003, she was a second team selection.

In addition to Rosario, senior Kerry Farrell (Rockville Center, NY) earned second team honors for the second straight year. Farrell teamed up with freshman Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) to reach the finals of number one singles where they eventually fell 6-1, 6-2 to Laurie Dorscheid and Amanda Husson of SUNY Cortland. Farrell was also semifinalist at number two singles where she was defeated by Krissy Feikert of Geneseo, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.

Yamakawa joined Farrell as a second team all-conference selection. In addition to her appearance in the finals at number one doubles, Yamakawa played in the first singles flight where she lost in three sets to Christine Greiner of Geneseo.

Juniors Sara Goldstein (Merrick, NY) and Laura Thomas (Hyde Park, NY) were also second team selections. Goldstein, a second team selection in 2003, and Thomas reached the finals of the third doubles flight and were defeated 6-4, 6-1 by Ashley Abar and Jen Hemedinger of SUNY Cortland.

Sophomore Jennifer Larson (Port Jervis, NY) was named to the All-SUNYAC second team after reaching the finals of the fifth singles competition and the second doubles flight. In singles play, she lost 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 to Meredith McCaslin of SUNY Cortland. In number two doubles, Larson and freshman Alexandra Goldberg (Scarsdale, NY) were defeated 6-4, 7-5 by the doubles team of McCaslin and Andrea TerBush of Cortland.

Goldberg earned a spot on the all-conference second team as well. In addition to her play with Larson, Goldberg reached the finals of the third singles flight and was defeated by TerBush 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

For the second time in the last three years, SUNY New Paltz Head Coach Rob Bruley was named the conference’s Coach of the Year. In addition to directing the Hawks to a third consecutive, top-two finish at the SUNYAC Championship, his squad went 7-2 this fall and will play in next week’s New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association Championship for the second straight year.
