SUNY New Paltz Defeats Ramapo, 7-1

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team stopped Ramapo’s winning streak at six with a 7-1 victory over the Roadrunners this afternoon.

The lone blemish for SUNY New Paltz (7-1) was a hard-fought three-set loss by freshman Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY). Yamakawa dropped the third game 7-5 to Andrea Testa (West Orange, NY) after winning the second set, 6-1. Testa captured the opening set, 6-4.

Freshman Alexandra Goldberg (Scarsdale, NY) and sophomore Jennifer Larson (Port Jervis, NY) remained undefeated with straight set victories. Goldberg and Larson are each 7-0 in singles play. The duo also improved to 6-1 in doubles play with an 8-3 win in the second flight.

The Hawks will play their final regular season match on Wednesday (Oct. 6) at home against Vassar at 4:00 p.m. before traveling to Manlius, NY for the SUNYAC Championship next weekend (Oct. 8-10). SUNY New Paltz won the conference championship in 2002 and finished second last season.

Ramapo dropped to 9-2 with the loss.

Doubles – #1 Yamakawa/Farrell (NP) vs. Murphy/Grant, rained out. #2 Goldberg/Larson (NP) defeated Juell/ Ashley Wnek (R) 8-3. #3 Stephanie Giosa/Laura Thomas (NP) defeated Gabrielle Gonzalez/Lindsay Gerhard (R) 8-3.
