Schoonmaker’s OT Goal Lifts Hawks Past Elmira

ELMIRA, NY — Junior Kate Schoonmaker (High Falls, NY) scored five minutes into the first overtime session to give SUNY New Paltz a 2-1 win over Elmira this afternoon.

Schoonmaker’s goal, her third game-winner of the season, helped the Hawks earn their second victory in as many days. SUNY New Paltz registered a 6-0 win over Wells College yesterday and is now 7-10 on the year. It’s the highest win total in the five-year history of the program. Trailing 1-0 late in the first half, the Hawks tied the score on a goal by junior Shannon Stokes (Accord, NY).

Elmira (5-10) grabbed an early 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Callia Black three minutes into the game. Sophomore goalie Nicole Kovac (Manlius, NY) shook off the early goal and blanked Elmira the rest of the way. Kovac finished with five saves.
