GENESEO, NY — Freshman midfielder Lauren Martel (W. Sayville, NY) scored in the seventh minute and the SUNY New Paltz defense recorded its second shutout in as many days in a 1-0 win at Geneseo this afternoon.
For the second straight day, senior goalie Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) made 11 saves. Fenton and the Hawks defense has now held it’s opponents scoreless for the last 204 minutes.
Martel’s unassisted tally was one of five shots on net by the Hawks.
With the victory, SUNY New Paltz (5-5-2, 3-2-1) stopped a four-game winless streak against Geneseo. The Hawks and Blue Knights played a 0-0 overtime tie on September 24, 1999.
Geneseo dropped to 4-8 overall and 2-4 in the SUNYAC.
