Hawks Reach 20-Win Mark at SUNY/CUNY Challenge

NEW YORK, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team swept four matches at the SUNY/CUNY Challenge this weekend to reach the 20-win plateau for the first time in six years.

The Hawks, who last reached in 20 wins in 1999 when the team finished with a 27-15 mark, are now 20-7 overall.

This afternoon, SUNY New Paltz recorded a pair of 3-0 wins over Baruch and York College. Against Baruch, junior Andrea Kaiser (Blue Point, NY) had 13 kills and freshman setter Kate Becofsky (Altamont, NY) had 24 assists to lead the Hawks to a 30-22, 30-18, 30-28 victory.

SUNY New Paltz used a balanced attack to defeat York 30-8, 30-20, 30-7. Kaiser, sophomore middle hitter Kate Roche (Patchogue, NY) and sophomore outside hitter Kendra Korkus (Syracuse, NY) had six kills apiece.

SUNY New Paltz began the tournament with two victories last night. The Hawks swept host Hunter College 3-0 (30-20, 30-17, 30-28) behind a six-kill, 14-dig effort from sophomore right side Franchesca Rodriguez (Schenectady, NY).

Rodriguez also sparked SUNY New Paltz to a 3-0 win over Medgar Evers with six kills and a 1.000 hitting percentage. The Hawks were 30-0, 30-19, 30-12 winners in that match.
