Hawks Shutout Brockport, 2-0

BROCKPORT, NY — The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team opened up its conference schedule with a 2-0 triumph at SUNY Brockport this afternoon.

The Hawks (1-5, 1-0) used a pair of second half goals to earn their first victory of the season. Junior attack Patricia Erikson (Massapequa Park, NY) and junior midfielder Kate Schoonmaker (High Falls, NY) accounted for the goal scoring.

Erikson’s goal, which was assisted by freshman midfielder Ashley Bocast (Durham, CA), ended 55 minutes of scoreless play. Less than three minutes later, junior midfielder Lisa Wong (Colts Neck, NJ) set up Schoonmaker to make give the Hawks some breathing room.

Sophomore goalie Nicole Kovac (Manlius, NY) turned away seven saves to earn her first collegiate victory and shutout.

SUNY New Paltz has now won two of the last three meetings against the Golden Eagles (3-3, 0-1). The Hawks will finish up a four-game road stretch with conference rival Oneonta on Wednesday (Sept. 22) at 6:00 p.m.
