SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis Team Handed First Lost by Cortland

NEW PALTZ, NY — Playing their first match in a little over a week, the SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team was dealt a tough loss by conference rival SUNY Cortland 6-3 this afternoon.

The teams split the singles fights each taking three victories. In number one singles freshman Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) defeated junior Laurie Dorscheid (Fairport, NY) 2-1. Dorscheid could not complete the contest due to injury and the Hawks were awarded the match point. Senior Kerry Farrell (Rockville Center, NY) fell to sophomore Amanda Husson (Middletown, NY) 6-7 (2-7), 6-7 (1-7) in number two singles. In the third flight, freshman Alexandra Goldberg (Scarsdale, NY) defeated sophomore Andrea TerBush (Batavia, NY) 6-1, 6-2. In number four singles, junior Sara Goldstein (Merrick, NY) was defeated by junior Meredith McCaslin (Babylon, NY) 1-6, 1-6. Sophomore Jennifer Larson (Port Jervis, NY) defeated junior Jen Hemedinger (Binghamton, NY) in number five singles 6-0, 7-5. In number six singles senior Amanda Rosario (Bronx, NY) lost to sophomore Stephanie Reynolds (Johnson City, NY) 1-6, 4-6.

The Red Dragons (5-2) swept SUNY New Paltz (4-1) in doubles play. Both teams will compete next weekend, Sept. 24-26th, in the ITA Tournament at William Smith.
