Jon Sousa Named Men’s Swimming MVP

NEW PALTZ, NY — Albany resident Jon Sousa was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the SUNY New Paltz men’s swimming team at the school’s annual Athletic Awards Banquet on May 7th.

Sousa, a senior, was one of the Hawks most consistent swimmers throughout the season. He was named to the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Second Team.

Sousa established two school records at the 2004 SUNYAC Championship where he finished second in the 100-yard butterfly in 52.37 and placed second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.71.

Sousa also placed in the top five in three of the four events he swam at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship in December. He placed fourth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:04.15 and was fifth in both the 100-yard butterfly (54.06) and 200-yard butterfly (2:20.30).

Sousa, a history major at SUNY New Paltz, is a 2000 graduate of Albany High School where he was a captain and team MVP during his four years on the swimming team.
