SUNY New Paltz Outdoor Track & Field Teams Open Season at Misericordia Invitational

DALLAS, PA — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams opened up their season at the Misericordia Invitational this afternoon. The men’s team had nine athletes finish in the top five in their event while setting two meet records. The women’s team had 16 top five finishes while establishing three meet records.

The men were led by junior Josh Moore (Woodburne, NY) who won the shot put with a meet record throw of 45 feet, 1 inch and the hammer throw with a toss of 134 feet, 6 inches. He also placed second in the discus with a throw of 115 feet, 5 ½ inches.

Senior Adam Thyberg (Blue Point, NY) joined Moore in the record books by clearing a height of 14 feet, 6 inches to win the pole vault. He shattered the previous record by over three and a half feet. He also finished sixth in both the 200 and 400 meters in 24.10 and 53.27.

Freshman Anthony Bryant (Norwich, NY) came in second in the 400 meters and 400-meter hurdles in 50.84 and 59.55 while senior John Zarella (Mahopac, NY) captured the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:21.21.

In the women’s meet, the Hawks had a pair of double winners. Sophomore Musu Jackson-Buckner (Buffalo, NY) won the 200 meters in a meet record time of 26.38 and also claimed the 100 meters in 12.97. Senior Natasha Dudar (New Paltz, NY) soared into the record books with a leap of 16 feet, 5 ½ inches to win the long jump. Dudar also won the triple jump with a jump of 32 feet, 3 ½ inches. Sophomore Janet Walsh (Baldwinsville, NY) broke the old record by 43 seconds in capturing the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:09.50

Junior Christina Butcher (North Salem, NY) finished third in the javelin (85 feet, 6 inches) and discus (72 feet, 10 inches) and was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.00).
