SUNY New Paltz Men’s Tennis Team Defeats Rutgers Newark

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s tennis team handed Rutgers Newark its first loss of the season with a 4-3 victory over the Scarlet Raiders this afternoon.

The Hawks (4-2) took the second and third doubles matches to jump out to a 1-0 lead. In singles play, senior Brad Breakstone (Mount Kisco, NY) defeated Nitesh Patel (North Bergen, NJ) 6-3, 6-4 at number one singles.

Junior Jason Letts (Plattsburgh, NY) improved to 6-0 at number six singles with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lukas Rasiej (Wallington, NJ).

Rutgers Newark fell to 2-1 with the loss. Freshman P.J. Nuqui (Saddle Brook, NJ) teamed up with junior Nitesh Patel (North Bergen, NJ) to give the Scarlet Raiders a win at number one doubles. Nuqui also earned a win at number two singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win over senior Bobby Calise (East Islip, NY).

Singles

Brad Breakstone (NP) defeated Nitesh Patel (RN) 6-3, 6-4. Bobby Calise (NP) lost to P.J. Nuqui (RN) 6-0, 6-3. Brian Palmenteri (NP) defeated Travis Wilkerson (RN) 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Josh Greenspan (NP) lost to Chang Cho (RN) 2-6, 7-5, 7-5. Scott Keicher (NP) lost to Manesh Sojitra (RN) 5-7, 7-6, 6-4. Jason Letts (NP) defeated Lukas Rasiej (RN) 6-3, 6-2

Doubles

Breakstone/Greg Cichon (NP) lost to Patel/Nuqui (RN) 9-8 (13-11). Calise/Palmenteri (NP) defeated David Fan/Ahmad Ashraf (RN) 8-1. Greenspan/Letts (NP) defeated Sriram Subramanian (RN) 8-0.
