SUNY New Paltz Baseball Team Falls to RPI, 13-5

TROY, NY — Senior Silvestre Castro (New York, NY) and sophomore Jeff Cote’ (Mechanicsville, MD) each had two hits for New Paltz which dropped a 13-5 decision to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this afternoon.

The Hawks (9-19) fell behind 9-0 after three innings before their bats came alive. They slowly chipped away at the RPI lead with a run in the fifth and sixth inning, two in the seventh and another in the eighth inning but the Red Hawks (16-9) responded by scoring in three of those four innings to maintain their lead.

Castro, sophomores Vinny McAdams (Little Falls, NY), Pete Esposito (Brooklyn, NY) and Josh Gutes (Hauppauge, NY) along with freshman George Perry (Port Jervis, NY) all crossed home plate for the Hawks. Esposito also collected one of the four RBI’s for New Paltz.

Colin Adalian and Flynn Cochran provided the offense for RPI. Adalian went 3-for-5 with five RBI’s and Cochran went 4-for-4 with three runs.

Each team went deep into their bullpen as a combined 15 pitchers were used in the game. Sophomore Greg Vignoli (Commack, NY) started for New Paltz and allowed three runs in an inning to take the loss. Chris Sullivan pitched two scoreless innings in picking up the victory for RPI.

New Paltz returns to the diamond on Saturday, April 17th when they play at conference rival Oneonta.
