NEW PALTZ — To celebrate the 100th birthday of the much-loved children’s author, Dr. Seuss, the Sojourner Truth Library (STL), located on the campus at the State University of New York at New Paltz, is hosting a marathon reading session of Dr. Seuss’s books.
The “Seuss-A-Thon” will kick off at noon on Monday, April 19, in the lobby of the STL. Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs David K. Lavallee will open the festivities and President Steven Poskanzer will be the first reader. Student and faculty volunteers will read their favorite Dr. Seuss books continuously, until there are no readers left.
“It is such a good thing. It is such a good day. We can honor the great Dr. Suess in this way. He wrote wonderful books. He brought laughter and joy to the hearts of his readers — each girl and each boy,” said Poskanzer.
Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, was born on March 2, 1904. Libraries, bookstores and schools across the country have been honoring his “Seussentennial” with parties, performances and readings from the author’s more than 50 books for children. The Seuss-A-Thon reading marathon is part of STL’s National Library Week celebration.
The event is free and open to the public. Children and adults of all ages are welcome. Birthday goodies will be served.
