Hawks Hand Western CT First Tennis Loss of Spring

DANBURY, CT — After having two matches washed away this week, the SUNY New Paltz men’s tennis team handed Western Connecticut State University its first loss of the season with a 5-4 road victory this afternoon.

The Hawks used victories at the fourth, fifth and sixth singles position by juniors Josh Greenspan (North Babylon, NY) and Jason Letts (Plattsburgh, NY) and sophomore Greg Cichon (Farmingdale, NY) to earn a split in the singles.

SUNY New Paltz won two of three doubles matches in the nine-point scoring system to prevail. The second doubles team of seniors Brian Palmenteri (Howard Beach, NY) and Bobby Calise (East Islip, NY) defeated Forest and Colin Robertson 8-5. Greenspan and Letts teamed up for an 8-2 victory at number three doubles against the team of David Forero and Gary Buda.

The Colonials dropped to 4-1 with the loss.

The Hawks will carry their 6-3 record into a road match against Ramapo tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.

Singles

Brad Breakstone (NP) lost to Ryan Adamonis (W) 7-5, 6-4. Bobby Calise (NP) lost to Matt Cusack (W) 6-1, 6-3. Brian Palmenteri (NP) lost to David Forero (W) 1-6, 7-6, 7-5. Josh Greenspan (NP) defeated Mitchell Case (W) 6-2, 6-2. Jason Letts (NP) defeated Henry Rynerson (W) 6-3, 6-4. Greg Cichon (NP) defeated Garnet Murray (W) 6-2, 6-1.

Doubles

Breakstone/Greg Cichon (NP) lost to Adamonis/Cusack (W) 8-2. Calise/Palmenteri (NP) defeated Forest Robertson and Colin Robertson (W) 8-5. Greenspan/Letts (NP) defeated Forero/Gary Buda (W) 8-2
