SUNY New Paltz Softball Team Rallies to Defeat Husson
FORT PIERCE, FL — Junior pitcher Laura Thomas (Bay Shore, NY) threw a complete game and drove home a run in a two-run fifth, to lead SUNY New Paltz to a 7-5 win over Husson this afternoon.
Thomas gave up seven hits and four earned runs to even her record at 2-2. She also struck out four hitters and went 3-for-3 at the plate as the Hawks improved their record to 3-4 on the year. Thomas’ single in the bottom of the fifth brought home junior Kristi Calvacca (Levittown, NY) with the tying run. A Husson error also allowed junior shortstop Jessica Schropfer (Glen Oaks, NY) to score giving SUNY New Paltz a 6-5 lead.
Freshman Tricia Porter took the loss for Husson. She pitched five and two thirds innings allowed all seven runs.
Husson (2-5) scored three times in the first and added two more in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead after four and a half. Seven different players collected hits for the Braves. Junior center fielder Nicole Munroe was 1-for-4 with three runs batted in.
SUNY New Paltz had 11 hits on the day. Schropfer had two hits and an RBI. Sophomore first baseman Liz McPartlan (Huntington Station, NY) was 2-for-3 and drove in three for the Hawks.
SUNY New Paltz will face Husson again tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
