Hawks Drop Florida Finale to Ripon

FORT PIERCE, FL — The SUNY New Paltz softball team dropped the final game of its nine-game Florida swing falling 8-0 to Ripon College this morning.

Lindsey Quimby tossed a one-hitter to lead the Red Hawks to their third win in four days over SUNY New Paltz. Quimby walked two and struck out eight in a complete game performance. A two-out, fourth inning single by sophomore first baseman Liz McPartlan (Huntington Station, NY) accounted for the Hawks lone hit of the day.

The Red Hawks took advantage of four SUNY New Paltz errors and scored five unearned runs off starter Laura Thomas (Bay Shore, NY). Thomas went the distance, allowed 11 hits, and did not walk a batter. She is now 2-3 this spring.

Nikki Beck sparked Ripon going 3-for-4 with two runs scored from the lead off spot. Chrissy Schneider and Abby Binder each collected two hits and drove in a run for the Red Hawks.

SUNY New Paltz finished up its spring trip with a record of 3-6. The Hawks will have 11 days off before facing conference rival Oneonta at home on Tuesday Mar. 30 at 3:00 p.m.
