Hawks Avenge Loss to Mount St. Vincent

RIVERDALE, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team avenged a 3-0 loss to Mount St. Vincent in January with an impressive sweep over the Dolphins this afternoon.

The Hawks won a hard-fought 31-29 first game and then rolled to a pair of 30-22 wins to complete the 3-0 win. SUNY New Paltz improved to 15-7 overall and 8-3 in the North Eastern Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Metro Division. The Hawks also moved ahead of Mount St. Vincent and into second place in the division with the victory. The Dolphins dropped to 18-7 overall and 5-4 in the NECVA.

Junior outside hitter Mike LaRocco (Hauppauge, NY) led the way with 14 kills and six digs. Sophomore opposite Chris Grunwald (St. James, NY) chipped in with nine kills and two solo blocks. Sophomore setter Kevin Buggs (Tonawanda, NY) added 34 assists for the Hawks who have won three straight matches and five of their last six.
