Hawks Suffer Doubleheader Loss to Brockport

NEW PALTZ, NY — A day after sweeping two from conference rival Fredonia, the SUNY New Paltz baseball team lost a doubleheader to Brockport this afternoon.

The Golden Eagles, who scored 22 runs in the doubleheader, took the first game 9-5 and followed that up with a 13-3 win in game two.

Senior rightfielder Mike Ranalli (Niagara Falls, NY) and junior shortstop John Morgan (Hilton, NY) each drove in three runs to lead the Golden Eagles to the win in game two. Ranalli went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored while Morgan was 2-for-5. Brockport scored three in the third and four in the fourth off SUNY New Paltz starter Justin Buonamano (Royersford, PA). Buonamano gave up seven runs and walked six in three and a third innings.

Sophomore Jeff Miterko (Webster, NY) and freshman Sean Rowland (Albany, NY) combined to six hit the Hawks. Miterko improved to 4-0 on the year after throwing seven and two thirds innings. He gave up three runs and struck out six. Junior shortstop Pete Esposito (Brooklyn, NY) and freshman leftfielder George Perry (Port Jervis, NY) each had two hits in the loss.

In the first game, Brockport senior leftfielder Matt Johnson (Kingston, NY) had a two-run double in a five-run first to key the Golden Eagles. Junior third baseman Rick Mihalik (Blasdell, NY) added a three run homer down the left field line in the third to extend the Brockport lead to 8-0. Mihalik went 2-for-3 with four runs batted in while Johnson was 2-for-3 and drove in two.

Freshman Greg Campo (Staten Island, NY) suffered the loss and dropped to 0-5. In six innings, he gave up nine hits and seven earned runs. Brockport senior lefthander Ben Kimball (Bainbridge, NY) went the distance to raise his record to 2-0. Kimball scattered 12 hits, walked one and struck out nine.

Sophomore centerfielder Vinny McAdams (Little Falls, NY) and Esposito each went 3-for-4 for the Hawks’ in the opening game loss.
