SUNY New Paltz Men’s Basketball Team Drops Season Finale to League Champion Brockport

NEW PALTZ, NY — The Brockport men’s basketball team will roll into next week’s SUNYAC post-season tournament as the top-seeded team following an impressive 103-72 win over SUNY New Paltz in the final regular season game for both teams.

The Golden Eagles, now 19-6 overall and 15-1 in the SUNYAC, ran their winning streak to 12 in a row with this afternoon’s effort. Brockport used a 16-6 run early in the first half to open up a 25-15 lead with nine minutes remaining. Nine different Golden Eagles scored in the first half while senior guard David Andrews (Huntington Station, NY) and senior forward Randy Bills (Fairport, NY) combined for 27 of Brockport’s 58 first half points as the Golden Eagles took a commanding 58-28 lead at the break.

Bills finished with a game-high 26 points to lead four Golden Eagles in double figures. He was 9-for-15 from the floor and made six of his nine three-point field goal attempts. Andrews finished with 14 points and senior forward Charlie Croff (Lockport, NY) and senior center Brandon Mills (Rochester, NY) each recorded double-doubles. Croff had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Mills added 13 points and 10 boards.

Freshman forward Amseshem Foluke-Henderson (Jamaica, NY) finished up a strong first-season and was the high man for SUNY New Paltz (6-18, 4-12) with 16 points. Senior guard Joe Bell (Albany, NY) had 12 points in the final game of his collegiate career. This afternoon’s game also marked the final games in the careers of forward Steve Ott (New Paltz, NY) and guards Matt Daudier (S. Floral Park, NY), Dom Fornabaio (Wappingers Falls, NY) and guard/forward Jayvard Smith (Hempstead, NY).
